2.5 million euros for Mitongo fuels Standard’s future earnings

René Mitongo, the 18‑year‑old Belgian centre‑forward, is set to leave Standard Liège for Turkish side Trabzonspor after the club agreed a fee of 2.5 million euros. Standard has inserted a clause guaranteeing twenty percent of any future resale value, ensuring further income if the striker moves again.

According to transferspecialist Fabrizio Romano, Standard risks losing its top talent as the Luikse attacker is already on his way to Turkey and has accepted Trabzonspor’s proposal. The move marks the first foreign adventure for the young striker.

Sudinfo Trabzonspor will pay the 2.5 million euros and that the resale‑percentage clause was negotiated by Standard. The financial package makes the deal the most lucrative for the Belgian club.

Other clubs showed interest. Çorum FK reportedly offered around two million euros, while Italian side Como placed a 1.5 million euro bid on the table, but neither matched the concrete terms presented by Trabzonspor.

Mitongo’s contract with Standard runs until 30 June 2028, having been extended in the summer of 2025. Transfermarkt values the Belgian U19 international at one million euros, highlighting the potential profit from the resale clause.

The striker’s development path includes youth spells at KSK Heist, KV Mechelen, Lierse, Beveren and KAA Gent before joining Standard, where he made his professional debut and recorded nine first‑team appearances.

He missed Standard’s Saturday match against Juventus and the following day’s fixture with Seraing, signalling that a departure was imminent. Those absences confirmed the rumours of an imminent transfer.

Currently, Mitongo is travelling to Turkey to undergo his medical examinations, the final step before completing the move. The transfer represents a significant step in his career, moving from the Belgian Pro League to the Turkish Süper Lig.
