PSV eyes Kodai Sano but worries about Noah Fernandez's chances

🇳🇱

PSV Eindhoven view Kodai Sano, the NEC midfielder, as a serious reinforcement for the coming season, but the club is also weighing the possible impact on 19‑year‑old forward Noah Fernandez, according to the Eindhovens Dagblad. The club’s hierarchy, including coach Peter Bosz, is said to be balancing the need for experience with the progression of homegrown talent.

Eindhovens Dagblad PSV has strong confidence Sano can add value to Peter Bosz’s squad. The club believes his experience in the Dutch top flight will complement the existing roster.

Internal voices within PSV fear that Sano’s arrival could diminish development chances for Noah Fernandez, who is 19. Fernandez has been earmarked as a key prospect for the club’s future.

“PSV tries to find a balance between experience and the flow of young players,” the newspaper writes. The comment reflects the club’s strategic approach as described by the publication.

PSV deliberately avoids giving the youth exclusive opportunities, opting instead to recruit players who, despite their relative youth, already possess top‑level experience. This policy aims to blend seasoned talent with emerging prospects.

Bosz previously warned that his “nekkie eraf gaat” if a too‑young squad relinquishes control in a title race. Technical director Earnest Stewart and general director Marcel Brands therefore prioritize players who have proven themselves at a high level.

According to the newspaper, PSV’s baseline requires players aged 19 to 22 to have amassed a substantial number of professional matches before a transfer is considered. Recent signings such as Paul Wanner and Ricardo Pepi exemplify this approach.

Sano appears to fit the next iteration of that policy, yet the club remains mindful of how his signing could affect Fernandez’s progression. The final decision will hinge on weighing immediate squad strength against long‑term youth development.
