Iran announces World Cup squad with ex-Schalke star Eckert Ayensa
Iran has revealed its final squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The roster travels to the United States accompanied by former German junior international Eckert Ayensa.
The tournament participation is expected to be clouded by ongoing political tensions involving Iran. International observers have warned that diplomatic disputes could affect travel and security arrangements.
Eckert Ayensa, who previously featured for FC Schalke 04’s youth sides, joins the delegation as a technical aide. His experience with German youth national teams is intended to support the Iranian squad’s preparation.
The team will cross the Atlantic, commonly referred to as “the big pond,” to join pre‑tournament camps in North America. Arrival is scheduled for early June, ahead of the group‑stage draw.
The announced list includes 23 players spanning domestic clubs and overseas leagues. No changes have been made since the provisional roster released last month.
Iran’s first match is set for June 21 against the United States. The squad’s performance will be closely monitored amid the geopolitical backdrop.
