Belgium's early €10m windfall from World Cup qualification

🇧🇪

Belgium’s football federation will already pocket more than €10 million after the Red Devils secured a round‑of‑16 spot at the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, thanks to FIFA’s record $871 million prize pool this year slated for redistribution.

FIFA announced a total prize pool of $871 million, roughly €748 million, to be shared among all participating federations. This amount more than doubles the $440 million allocated at the 2022 tournament.

Each nation that qualifies for the World Cup receives a base payment of €8.8 million. The Belgian Union uses this figure as a reference point throughout its financial calculations.

Qualification for the round of 16, which Belgium achieved, adds an extra €1.7 million, bringing the total to €10.5 million. If Belgium were to advance further, the allocation would increase to €14 million for a round‑of‑16 finish and nearly €17 million for reaching the quarter‑finals.

The champion stands to earn €43 million, compared with €36 million awarded to Argentina in 2022. In addition, FIFA provides €2.2 million per country to cover preparation expenses.

The Belgian Union has indicated that a World Cup victory could trigger a gross bonus of more than €400 000 for the Red Devils. Fans are encouraged to stay informed by subscribing to the Walfoot newsletter.
