Austria Offers Rangnick Full Contract as Milan Stalls

🇦🇹 6 June 2026
Austria have pledged to meet every demand of Ralf Rangnick for a new contract. AC Milan still lack a coach, CEO, director of sport and technical director, and fans have condemned Zlatan Ibrahimovic for an insensitive video. Rangnick, who was being positioned as a technical director with expanded powers, will continue to lead Austria at the 2026 World Cup. The Austrian federation has agreed to extend his coaching contract to the 2028 European Championship. Transfer pundit Matteo Moretto noted the offer, and Peter Schoettel, sporting director of Austria, appeared with Rangnick ahead of the Austria‑Ghana international friendly at Ernst Happel Stadion on 27 March 2026. AC Milan dismissed coach Max Allegri, CEO Giorgio Furlani, director of sport Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada almost two weeks ago, and no replacements have been announced. Patron Gerry Cardinale has not yet decided whether to appoint Rangnick at the club. Ibrahimovic, retained as a special advisor to RedBird, is preparing to work as a television pundit at the 2026 World Cup. He also released a new advertisement video and posted workout clips on social media, and was photographed before the Serie A match with FC Internazionale at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on 8 March 2026. Milan supporters responded with banners and flyers at San Siro demanding his dismissal, arguing he should focus on the club's crisis. The club’s inability to outline a transfer strategy or begin player negotiations leaves AC Milan in a prolonged state of uncertainty. Fans continue to pressure the hierarchy as the season approaches.
