FC Midtjylland eyes former Ajax wing‑back in a ‘big coop’

FC Midtjylland is on the verge of signing former Ajax wing‑back Rasmus Nissen Kristensen, who made 27 appearances for Ajax and moved to the Dutch club for €5.5 million in 2018. The news broke today, with Danish outlet Tipsbladet reporting the imminent deal.

Tipsbladet wrote on Friday that "FC Midtjylland staat op het punt een grote deal te sluiten met de aankoop van Rasmus Nissen Kristensen", calling the transfer a "grote coop". The report frames the move as a major acquisition for the Danish side.

According to the same source, Midtjylland already has an agreement with the Danish international and is close to finalising terms with his current club Eintracht Frankfurt. Both parties are said to be nearing a definitive accord.

The transfer process is described as progressing swiftly and is expected to be completed in the near future. Club officials anticipate that the swift conclusion will bolster the squad before the new campaign.

Kristensen is expected to help Midtjylland chase the Danish championship, a title the club has not secured since 2020. His experience in the Dutch league is seen as valuable for the domestic title push.

Midtjylland is also reportedly working on the arrival of Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg, and Kristensen’s signing is viewed as a step that could facilitate Dolberg’s move. The two acquisitions are linked in the club’s recruitment strategy.

Sporting director Kristian Bach Bak said, "Hij is als een vriend in huis", referring to the potential arrivals of Kristensen and Dolberg. He added that the two remain good friends after meeting during their time at Ajax.

The combined interest in Kristensen and Dolberg underscores Midtjylland’s ambition to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming season, aiming to restore its dominance in Danish football.
