Club Brugge clinches twentieth Belgian league title

🇧🇪 22 May 2026

Club Brugge secured their twentieth Belgian league title on the penultimate matchday. A 2-2 draw against KV Mechelen ensured they could not be overtaken by any rival.

Dutch internationals Dani van den Heuvel, Bjorn Meijer and Ludovit Reis kept Union Saint-Gilloise behind throughout the season. Their contributions helped maintain Club Brugge’s lead.

Union Saint-Gilloise had held the top spot since the sixth round of the regular season. The Brussels champions relinquished the lead a few weeks ago to Club Brugge.

Coach Ivan Leko’s side continued their push with a 5-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise last Sunday. The win represented a decisive step toward the championship.

Greek forward Christos Tzolis, formerly of FC Twente, proved vital this season with 16 goals and 22 assists. His creativity was a key factor in the title race.

Technical director Dévy Rigaux is leaving Club Brugge after seventeen years of service. He will join Dutch club Feyenoord, making the league title his final prize with Brugge.
