Xavi's first impression

Xavi said after the match that he is “satisfied”, but emphasized that this is “just the beginning”. The goal came after striker Brian Brobbey had already been injured after half an hour, a loss that Xavi later described as “a big disappointment”. Gakpo expressed displeasure about the behaviour of the German players at the opening goal, which he said were “unsporting”.

Defensive moments

Virgil van Dijk saw a header in the thirteenth minute disallowed because Brian Brobbey was blocking goalkeeper Marc‑André ter Stegen. Later a goal from Mexx Meerdink was not confirmed by the VAR, after which Van Dijk said he “deserved at least a point”. The Dutch attack received an extra boost from Crysencio Summerville and Tijjani Reijnders.

Xavi retained many names from his predecessor Ronald Koeman, but introduced a four‑back system instead of the previous five‑back system.
