Xavi puts the Oranje in Pot 1 for Euro qualification thanks to four wins

On the cold evening in Rotterdam, Xavi Hernández stared at the empty stand, while the final minutes of the Nations League‑match were still fading. With a fourth consecutive win, the Dutch already had eight points on the board, a result that secured the path to Pot 1 in the Euro qualification.

Four wins give the Dutch the edge

The Dutch have recorded four positive results under Xavi so far. This has led to a favourable starting position in the Euro qualification campaign.

The Dutch national team will inevitably be placed in Pot 1 during the Euro qualification draw. This is based on the first four matches under head coach Xavi Hernández in the Nations League, in which the team earned eight points.

With eight points from four matches, the Dutch can no longer finish fourth in the group. The top three of each A‑group, including the Netherlands in Group A2, automatically go to Pot 1.

Serbia finished fourth in Group A2 with zero points, meaning they no longer have a chance to catch the Dutch or second‑placed Greece (also with eight points).

In November, two more Nations‑League matches are on the agenda: the Netherlands host Greece and travel to Germany. These fixtures will determine whether Xavi’s men retain their position in the group.

A place in the quarter‑finals is secured by finishing in one of the top two spots in the group, so the current standing of the Dutch gives them a comfortable path.
