Xavi praises Dutch display in first Nations League outing
Netherlands manager Xavi evaluated his debut in charge after the side drew 1‑1 with Germany in the opening fixture of UEFA Nations League 2026‑27 Group A2 on the 24th. He said the team showed wonderful play and he was satisfied, though a better result was possible.
The game opened at the Johan Cruyff Arena when Germany took the lead in the 32nd minute through Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha. The Netherlands fought back and levelled in second‑half added time when Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo volleyed home a cross from PSV striker Luven van Bommel.
Xavi added that the Dutch were superior to Germany, especially in the second half, and that the performance deserved a win. He expressed happiness at seeing the team’s style on display.
