Xabi Hernandez assesses Netherlands display in Serbia clash

The Netherlands national team, coached by Xabi Hernandez, earned their first victory under his leadership by defeating Serbia 2‑1 in the UEFA Nations League on the 27th. Meeks Meirudink opened the scoring with a penalty in the 30th minute and added the winner in the 69th.

After the match Hernandez said the side could have executed the high press, midfield block and defensive line better, but he felt the performance deserved the win. He highlighted the individual quality of Serbia’s Luka Jovic and Dusan Tadic, noting they caused problems at times.

He also praised Yohei Feruman for his excellent play and high‑quality passing, and expressed delight at Meirudink’s two goals and his self‑less work for the team. Codi Gakpo took the first penalty, with Meirudink converting the second.
