Wolves strengthen defence: Konan returns under Peixoto's guidance

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the signing of Ghislain Konan, Ivorian left‑back, on a one‑year contract. The new defender joins the Wolves' club immediately after the departure of David Moller Wolfe on the final day of the transfer window, reuniting with manager Cesar Peixoto.

One‑year contract and Peixoto's return

Konan's contract is for one year, with an unspecified renewal option. His signing closes the transfer window, during which the Wolves also had to handle the exit of David Moller Wolfe. The agreement was announced by the club on the same day.

Konan's journey through the major leagues

Developed at Vitória SC, Konan made 57 appearances for the Portuguese side. He later established himself in France with Reims, where he approached 100 appearances over four Ligue 1 seasons. These experiences have cemented his reputation as a high‑level defender.

The defender then had spells in the Saudi Pro League, wearing the shirts of Al Nassr and Al‑Fayha. He also had a stint in Spain with Burgos, broadening his international portfolio. These journeys demonstrate his ability to adapt to different competitive environments.

Last season at Gil Vicente, Konan featured in 31 matches under the guidance of Cesar Peixoto, contributing to the club's European qualification. The Portuguese manager, who had already coached him the previous season, confirmed the full‑back's value in the backline.

Cesar Peixoto commented on the arrival: “I’m happy because Ghislain is a good player and an experienced international. He has already played at the highest level, and he gives us the ability to stay competitive with two players per position.” Konan will wear the number 33 shirt.

Konan brings a prestigious international experience with Ivory Coast: he took part in the last World Cup in North America, playing three matches in the round of 16, and in 2023 he won the Africa Cup of Nations. His presence enriches the Wolves' defensive unit.

At 30 years old, the full‑back has been capped 57 times by the Ivory Coast senior national team. His international profile completes Wolverhampton Wanderers' project, which aims to maintain competitiveness in the Championship.
