Why Xavi Hernández should scout Feyenoord talent before Germany debut
Noa Vahle believes that Xavi Hernández, the newly appointed Spanish head coach of the Netherlands national team, should make a visit to Feyenoord in the coming weeks, with his first Nations League match against Germany scheduled for 24 September and a press conference set for 25 August.
Xavi's imminent debut
The Spaniard took charge of the Oranje only a few weeks ago and already faces a tight schedule. His debut against Germany will be part of a four‑match Nations League window, leaving little time for squad experimentation. There, Vahle stresses the importance of observing club performances.
According to Vahle, the coach still has a few weeks before the Germany game to assess which players fit his tactical plans. The Dutch side will need fresh ideas, and the national team’s summer programme, De Oranjezomer, has become a focal point for such discussions.
Vahle's player shortlist
Vahle recommends that Xavi look closely at three Feyenoord prospects: Luciano Valente, Givairo Read and Gjivai Zechiël. He describes Valente as a promising talent, Read as a dynamic option, and Zechiël as a future star who is already performing fantastically.
"No, he actually speaks very good English. He spent a long time in Qatar, where he worked, so I don’t think language will be a problem," Vahle said, emphasizing the coach’s communication skills.
"Naturally he knows Frenkie and all those guys, but he will still need to watch Feyenoord in the coming weeks," Vahle added. "He should look at Read, at Valente, maybe even at Zechiël for the future. He might even watch an away game of Feyenoord at Cambuur."
Xavi now faces the challenge of guiding the Oranje through four Nations League fixtures, a test that will reveal how quickly he can integrate the suggested Feyenoord players into his plans.
