Why Ronald Araujo’s omission from Barcelona’s kit launch raises doubts
Barcelona unveiled the 2026-27 kits earlier this week, showcasing Nike’s sleek design across a series of high‑profile visuals. While Pedri, Lamine Yamal and other stars appeared in the posters, captain Ronald Araujo was conspicuously absent.
The launch posters displayed Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Frenkie de Jong, Raphinha, Dani Olmo, Gavi, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde wearing the new strip. Even other captains such as Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Raphinha were included, underscoring the breadth of the campaign.
According to AS, Ronald Araujo, the Uruguayan defender who holds the club captaincy, did not appear in any of the kit images. His absence has sparked speculation among supporters about his standing within the squad.
Araujo remains under contract with Barcelona and has publicly stated his desire to fight for his place. Nevertheless, Hansi Flick’s hierarchy places several players ahead of him, limiting his expected involvement this season.
Raphinha, linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, and Alejandro Balde, rumored to be targeting a Premier League transfer, both featured prominently on the kit posters. Jules Kounde, whose future has been described as clouded, also appears, suggesting the visuals may highlight players whose status is uncertain.
If the kit launch serves as a visual cue of Barcelona’s plans for next season, Araujo’s omission could signal a shift in his role, though the club has not confirmed any departure. The next weeks will reveal whether the captain’s silence translates into a transfer or a reduced squad presence.
