West Ham's future hinges on Staveley bid for Gold stake

🇬🇧 By 4AllFootball ·

West Ham United is actively seeking fresh capital to stabilise after its recent relegation, and a consortium headed by former Newcastle United director Amanda Staveley is reported to be close to acquiring a significant share of the club, specifically the 25 percent stake currently held by Vanessa Gold.

The investment group also comprises Staveley’s husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, reinforcing the family’s financial backing. Their primary objective is to purchase the quarter‑ownership currently controlled by Vanessa Gold.

Following the drop from the Premier League, West Ham has raised roughly £145 million from the transfers of Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville, while keeping captain Jarrod Bowen on the roster. The club has generated an additional £145 million through other player deals, underscoring its financial resilience, and has already sold 50,000 season tickets for the forthcoming Championship campaign.

Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky is positioned to become West Ham’s largest shareholder after agreeing to buy an extra stake from the Gold family. If completed, his holding would rise to 43 percent, surpassing David Sullivan’s current 38.8 percent, although the deal has not been formally confirmed.

Ms Gold inherited the quarter‑ownership following the 2023 death of her father, David Gold. Vanessa Gold has publicly signalled her willingness to sell the stake.

David Sullivan resigned last month amid historic allegations of misconduct, which he denies. He has not disclosed any plans regarding his own shareholding.

Kretinsky is not pursuing sole ownership of West Ham and is believed to be open to additional investment. The club aims to move beyond its previous regime and rebuild after last season’s relegation.

Staveley has previously expressed interest in investing in “a club that isn’t performing well,” a description she applied to West Ham after a difficult 2025‑26 campaign. She backed the Saudi consortium that purchased Newcastle United in 2021, sold her shares two years later, and helped guide the Magpies from the relegation zone to Champions League qualification in 2023, and was also linked with a bid for Tottenham Hotspur last season.

The next steps focus on finalising an agreement with Vanessa Gold for the 25 percent stake. Potential competition from Daniel Kretinsky and the unresolved status of David Sullivan’s shares could influence the final ownership structure.
