Vincenzo Montella loses his job in Turkey after a disastrous run
In the Turkish training camp a tense silence falls as the news arrives: Vincenzo Montella loses his job in Turkey. The 52‑year‑old Italian, who has been in charge of the national team since September 2021, must step down immediately after a string of defeats and now finds himself at the centre of a deep crisis for the national side.
TFF confirms separation
The Turkish football association TFF officially announced the split from the 52‑year‑old coach of the country. In a statement it read: “It has been decided to end the cooperation with our national coach, Mr Vincenzo Montella.” The association gave no details about a successor.
Montella had to endure the disastrous start in the Nations League. After four matches there are four defeats and zero points on the record, most recently an away trip against Italy that ended 1‑3. This loss on his home soil proved fatal.
Montella was appointed in 2023 as the successor to Stefan Kuntz, after the Euro 1996 champion had coached Turkey from September 2021 to September 2023. Already after the group‑stage exit at the World Cup in the summer, criticism of the former professional had risen.
The TFF has so far given no information about a successor, leaving the future of the national side still uncertain.
