Vincent Kompany to top hospital in Munich, like Michael Jackson

On a cold Wednesday morning in Munich, observers saw Vincent Kompany (40) wobble and collapse at Bayern's training complex. He was rushed to the TUM Klinikum Rechts der Isar, a hospital that had previously treated pop icon Michael Jackson.
A university hospital with a world reputation
The TUM Klinikum Rechts der Isar in Munich ranks among the world’s top; it is placed 35th on the global ranking of best hospitals. Three years ago it was still in the top twenty, making it one of the highest‑rated institutions in Germany. Sven Van Londersele Sport recorded the latest update at 17:44, noting that the hospital had previously treated Michael Jackson.
The hospital is located only five kilometres from the Säbener Straße, compared with the eleven kilometres to the Barmherzige Brüder Hospital that Bayern players normally use. For Bayern Munich players the Barmherzige Brüder Hospital is the trusted base. In addition to its favorable location, the Klinikum is specialized in neurology, an expertise rarely found in other München hospitals. According to, Kompany experienced seizures during his collapse, after which doctors investigated a possible brain problem. In the specialised centre a meningitis was eventually diagnosed, an inflammation of the membranes around the brain.
Vincent Kompany leaves hospital but Bayern still lack a return date
After the diagnosis Kompany received the necessary medication and rest, and is now back home. The swift intervention at a hospital with neurological expertise has, according to the treating doctors, played a crucial role in his recovery.
The same hospital received American singer Michael Jackson in June 1999, after a bridge at the Munich Olympic Stadium collapsed during a charity concert. Jackson suffered scrapes, bruises and a mild strain of his back and spine, but was able to finish the performance before being taken to the clinic.
The presence of both a world‑famous artist and a top footballer underscores the reputation of the Klinikum Rechts der Isar as a sanctuary for athletes and celebrities seeking specialised neurological care.
