Viking halt Bayern after Michael Olise's red card in Champions League

In matchday J‑2 of the Champions League group stage, Viking managed to draw 3‑3 against Bayern Munich after Michael Olise received a second red card, which nullified the Bavarian side's comeback.

A match marked by Olise's red card

Referee Georgi Kabakov, from Bulgaria, showed two red cards to Michael Olise in the 73rd minute and again in the 73rd minute, after a foul and a violent gesture against Zlatko Tripic. The dismissal left Bayern with ten players and forced Manuel Neuer to come on as a substitute for Jonas Urbig.

Viking remains firm despite the deficit

Although Bayern dominated possession and had chances from Laimer, Karl, Olise, Luis Díaz and Harry Kane, the Norwegian defender Arild Östbö and his teammates resisted the attacks, keeping the score balanced.

Viking opened the scoring with Gianni Stensness in the 2nd minute, and went ahead again with Peter Christiansen in the 38th minute, capitalising on a run from Erik Botheim.

Bavarian comeback and new draw

Harry Kane reduced the deficit in the 54th minute with a penalty awarded by VAR to Kristoffer Haugen on Laimer, and equalised again in the 60th minute after a header. Luis Díaz completed the Bavarian 2‑3 in the 71st minute, but Viking levelled once more in the 89th minute with a header from Herman Haugen.

The referee cautioned several players again, including Laimer, Kristoffer Haugen, Daland and Saibari, while the crowd of 15,466 spectators celebrated Viking's historic point.

Reactions and consequences

Vincent Kompany reprimanded his players at halftime and made three substitutions, bringing in Davies and Upamecano in defence and Saibari in midfield. Olise's dismissal means the French will miss the upcoming Bayern‑Arsenal clash.

According to the EFE report, Jordi Archs of International Football described Viking as a “modest” team that, driven by its fans and the artificial turf, celebrated its first point in the competition.
