VfB Stuttgart winger Bouanani transfers to Scotland

Badredine Bouanani leaves VfB Stuttgart after the deadline day and moves on loan to Scotland. The 21‑year‑old winger joins the Glasgow Rangers, before the summer transfer window in the top leagues of Europe closes on Thursday.

Loan to Glasgow Rangers

The official announcement confirms that Bouanani moves to the Rangers on loan. According to media reports, the Scottish champions have secured a purchase option of €18 million, which could be exercised next summer and would thus be a potential record transfer for the club.

VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth stated that Bouanani scored two goals and provided two assists in 28 league matches last season. For his further development, regular playing time at a high level is important, and the Glasgow Rangers offer very good conditions for that.

Background and Reactions

The winger has not yet justified the €15 million fee that Stuttgart paid to OGC Nice in the summer. In the well‑stocked attacking department of the Swabians he would also have faced stiff competition, and coach Sebastian Hoeneß did not include him in the Champions League squad.

Since the Rangers are not competing internationally this season, participation in the top‑tier competition is unavailable for the 21‑year‑old Algerian. On the club’s website Bouanani emphasized that he is “very happy” about the move to the tough Scottish Championship and wants to bring his experience.

On deadline day several European top clubs showed interest, including Werder Bremen and Schalke 04, but a loan within the Bundesliga did not materialise. Only Chema Andrés left Stuttgart shortly before the deadline and moved to Brighton & Hove Albion.
