Verschaeren regains confidence with his first Serie B goal

In the Südtirol stadium, under the twilight lights, Yari Verschaeren, newly signed in Serie B, is about to score his first goal for Sampdoria, a moment long‑awaited after a difficult season at Anderlecht and to regain the confidence that had eluded him.

Verschaeren scored that goal yesterday, but it was not enough to secure the win for his teammates. He hopes this moment will boost his morale.

After a particularly lean final season at Anderlecht, the young midfielder was not yet ready to start as a starter at Sampdoria. His form had dipped, limiting his opportunities.

His former coach, Bernardo Corradi, brought him into the starting eleven from the third matchday of Serie B. That decision marked the start of his gradual return onto the pitch.

Since then, the number ten has provided two assists, gradually regaining his feel. He was still searching for the back of the net, until the long‑awaited goal finally materialised.

Change of direction and new momentum

Yesterday, Sampdoria traveled to Südtirol to revive a fragile momentum. After two consecutive defeats, Bernardo Corradi was dismissed, handing his place to Luca D'Angelo.

Verschaeren kept his place in the eleven, acting as an attacking support. Just after the half‑hour mark, he created the difference with a shot from outside the box, found on the edge of the area and placed out of reach of the home keeper.

That goal remained the only one of the match, but in added time the visitors conceded a penalty, allowing Südtirol to equalise.

Sampdoria have recorded only one win in eight games, which leaves them in the penultimate spot in the league. This situation makes every point crucial to hope for climbing the table.
