Venezia dismiss Stroppa as six‑game losing run ends hopes
Venezia FC confirmed on Tuesday morning that head coach Giovanni Stroppa has been relieved of his duties after the club suffered its sixth consecutive league defeat, a 3-1 loss away to Atalanta. The decision came hours after the Bergamo match, marking the end of a winless start to the Serie A campaign. The club issued an Official statement announcing the termination.
Season of setbacks
Venezia have now lost all six opening Serie A matches, scoring five goals while conceding sixteen, making them the league’s most‑beaten defence. Across all competitions the side has managed only one victory in eight games, a 3-2 win over Modena in the Coppa Italia first round on August 15, before falling 2-1 to Udinese in the next round.
Search for a replacement
Club director Antonelli is already working to appoint a successor, with former Venezia manager Paolo Zanetti and Davide Nicola highlighted as leading candidates. Roberto D'Aversa is also mentioned as a possible option, having previously been in contact with the club during the international break.
Venezia sack Giovanni Stroppa after sixth Serie A loss
Stroppa, who guided Venezia to promotion from Serie B to Serie A in the 2025/26 season, had his contract recently extended to 2029 before the dismissal. He becomes the fourth Serie A coach to be sacked this season, joining Fabio Grosso, Domenico Tedesco and Carlos Cuesta.
The Official statement, released from Bergamo, Italy on October 12, noted that Stroppa had overseen the club’s promotion and thanked him and his staff for their professionalism and dedication. The announcement referenced the match at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia, where Stroppa watched the 3-1 defeat unfold.
Venezia’s next fixture is a home game against Napoli on Saturday, October 17, with kick‑off scheduled for the afternoon.
