Van Bommel dreams of Milan and recalls his Scudetto at the Olimpico

The head coach of Belgium, Mark van Bommel, told Sky Sport of the Red Devils, on the eve of the Nations League clash against Italy, that it would be a pleasure to coach Milan in the future, recalling his brief stint at the club, where he won a Serie A title at the Olimpico.

Milan recollection

Van Bommel recalled his period at Milan, describing it as “truly beautiful” despite its brevity. He added, “At the Olimpico I played only one match and we won the Serie A title.”

According to the former player, the squad was fantastic and they played very well, showing a high level even in such a short period.

The clash against Italy

Van Bommel admitted that preparing the national team in 3‑4 days is not easy. He stated that the team wants ball possession, to dominate the game and maintain control.

The coach described it as the beginning of a new era for Belgium, ready to face strong national sides. He noted that Italy also shares the same problem.

Regarding the opponent, he said “We don’t know what Mancini will do, it’s difficult to prepare for this match.” He added that he knows Gattuso well, but now there’s Roberto, and that it will be difficult for both.

The link with Italian football

Van Bommel listed the Belgians playing in Serie A: Lukaku, De Bruyne, Tielemans and De Ketelaere. He stated that this presence eases adaptation to Italian football.

He reported having spoken with De Winter and Moreira at Milanello, about the stadium and Milan. He observed that the red‑and‑black of MILAN need to start winning again, as they have not been in a good situation for a couple of years.

Finally, Van concluded that “it would be nice to coach Milan, but let’s not talk about the FUTURE now.” He added that the national team will play the Nations League and the European Championship before assessing any opportunities.
