United mount dramatic comeback against Roma

While Manchester United staged a dramatic comeback against AS Roma, FC Barcelona secured an easy 3‑0 victory over Aston Villa in the Champions League.

The two matches highlight both a broken losing streak for United and a milestone for Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Manchester United recorded their first win since early September, breaking the negative run.

United mounts dramatic comeback

AS Roma scored twice within 17 minutes, a record for a European match at Old Trafford.

The first goal (0‑1) came via Rodrigo Mora, who found the Argentine Matias Soulé.

Six minutes later United defender Ayden Heaven made an error, after which Donyell Malen struck from the spot to make it 0‑2.

Malen has scored 27 goals in all competitions since his debut in January, and only Harry Kane has netted more in the five major leagues.

In the 55th minute Matheus Cunha fell in the penalty area, after which Bruno Fernandes was awarded a penalty; his first attempt was saved, but the second was converted.

In the 83rd minute Cunha got a chance after a mis‑control by Roma defender Leonardo Balerdi, and three minutes later he made it 3‑2 in the near post.

Cunha received his second yellow card in injury time, but the win remained safe.

Michael Carrick hopes this turning point will keep him on the bench in 2027, although more is needed than this win.

Barcelona celebrates easy Champions League victory

FC Barcelona (BAR) beat Aston Villa (AVL) at home 3‑0 in the Champions League.

Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the 7th minute, after which Raphinha scored twice in the 52nd and 64th minutes.

Frenkie de Jong played the final twenty minutes and thereby marked his 300th appearance for Barcelona, becoming the Dutch player with the most appearances for the club.

In April he reached his 293rd match and thus overtook Phillip Cocu, who played 292 games for Barcelona.

Bayern Munich also recorded a win in the Champions League.
