Union moves Europa League tie against Hapoël Be’er Sheva to Düsseldorf

Union has found a solution for the upcoming Europa League‑match against Hapoël Be’er Sheva: the match will not be played in Leuven, but moved to the Düsseldorf Arena in Germany and will take place behind closed doors.

Why Leuven was no longer possible

The Brussels side normally held their European home games at the Dudenpark and, a week earlier, had moved them to Leuven. For the tie against Hapoël Be’er Sheva, the mayor of Leuven banned the match against the Israeli club, forcing Union to look for an alternative venue.

Choice of Düsseldorf

Union confirmed via the official club website that the Düsseldorf Arena is the chosen location. The club said it initially wanted to find a stadium close to Brussels where supporters would be welcome, but security reasons made this impossible. Düsseldorf turned out to be the most practical option for players and staff, as the relocation could be kept to a minimum.

Implications for supporters and compensation

Supporters are not allowed to attend the match; it will be played without spectators. Union thanks the city of Düsseldorf and Fortuna Düsseldorf for hosting the Brussels side. To compensate for the missed attendance, everyone with a ‘mini‑abo’ for the League Phase receives a voucher worth a quarter of the subscription fee. The voucher will be automatically added to the linked account within two weeks and can be used for Union matches in the Europa League or the Jupiler Pro League. The voucher remains valid until 31 July 2027.
