Udinese Alaba: Runjaic convinces him, the defender ready to play
The new Austrian defender David Alaba was officially presented in Udine in front of a crowd of excited fans, stating that he feels fit and ready to play after months without a club.
Choice guided by Runjaic
Alaba explained that the decisive factor was the discussion with coach Kosta Runjaic: “I mainly talked with mister Runjaic, he convinced me of the project here.” He added that he took time to evaluate the offer, ultimately convinced that it was the right step for his career.
A contract until 2027
The defender, free from Real Madrid since June 30, signed with Udinese until June 2027, as confirmed by Group Technical Director Gianluca Nani, who described the deal as “a rarity for the Friuli fans.”
International experience at Udinese's disposal
General manager Franco Collavino highlighted the value of the deal, recalling the numerous trophies Alaba has won at the international level and his role as a mainstay in the Austrian national team. He urged the newcomer to “raise the level of mentality” by working with the club's young talents.

Gökhan Inler, former teammate, expressed enthusiasm: “It’s a special moment, from day one I felt the energy. It’s an honour to have such a champion in our squad.”
Alaba also mentioned the advice he received from Luka Modrić, Marko Arnautović and Franck Ribéry before signing, and confirmed that he had spoken with other Italian clubs.
Regarding his role, the defender said he feels more comfortable as a centre‑back, but remains flexible: “I have always been very flexible, I can also help the team in other positions.”
Finally, Alaba explained the pause from the Austrian national team: “I decided to temporarily halt activities with the national team to focus on the start in Udine.” Udinese will face Torino on Monday, with Alaba ready to step in if needed.
