Cardinale Milan wants to turn the club into the York Yankees Milan

Gerry Cardinale, patron and founder of RedBird, owner of Milan, told Bloomberg Screentime 2026 that he intends to turn the club into a true York Yankees Milan, creating a sports and entertainment platform to bring Italian football up to the level of the Premier League.

During the interview, Cardinale emphasized: “Milan is like the New York Yankees of Italian football.” The statement highlights the desire to make the club the reference point, LIKE THE YANKEES, for the entire Italian sports landscape.

His investment style, according to the entrepreneur, is to identify “broken” areas and “fix them,” accelerating the process to bring them back to where they were before. “It’s a massive opportunity in European football,” he added, highlighting America’s role in his vision.

Infrastructure Projects

Cardinale confirmed the purchase of the iconic San Siro in Milan and announced the construction of a new 80,000‑seat venue next to the old stadium. He also expressed the intention to bring an NBA team to Milan and to build a dedicated arena.

This new facility is intended to serve as a sports and entertainment platform, helping to fund Italian football. “Entertainment is necessary to pay for sport,” he explained, reiterating the need for a more commercial model.

Entertainment Strategy

Cardinale compared the current state of Italian football to Hollywood, quoting Netflix: “The Premier League is at the top because Italian football has been lazy, it has lacked a sense of urgency in renewal.” The goal is to bridge this gap.

According to the patron, creating a sports and entertainment Milan will accelerate the development of Italian football, bringing it to levels similar to those of the Premier League.

Vision for the Future

The project also includes the club on Via Aldo Rossi, which should be integrated into the new platform. Cardinale concluded by stating that, if he could buy any team, he would still choose Milan, because it represents the opportunity to transform Italian football into a reality equal to the Premier League.
