Two‑year contract drives Nantes’ promotion push with Marseille defender
Lucas Perrin, the 27‑year‑old former Olympique de Marseille centre‑back, is set to sign a two‑year deal with FC Nantes, according to reports. He will aim to help the Breton side regain top‑flight status.
The contract offered by FC Nantes runs for two years, securing Perrin until the summer of 2026. The terms have not included a disclosed transfer fee, underscoring the quiet nature of the deal.
Lucas Perrin, a product of Olympique de Marseille’s academy, previously featured for RC Strasbourg Alsace before moving abroad to Hamburger SV. After a loan spell at Cercle Brugge, he joined Sporting Gijón in Spain, where he became a regular starter before losing his place after Christmas.
During the first half of the season with Sporting Gijón, Perrin made 23 starts in 25 appearances, scoring two goals across all competitions. His existing contract with the Spanish club runs until 2027, indicating a long‑term commitment that Nantes is willing to terminate.
Nantes, known as Les Canaris, are aiming for immediate promotion back to Ligue 1 after their relegation last season. The acquisition reflects a broader trend of French clubs recruiting experienced players from abroad without paying disclosed fees.
Léo Aschi notes that the lack of a public fee highlights the cautious spending environment in the French transfer market. Clubs such as Nantes appear to prioritize contract length and player experience over upfront financial outlays.
