Tresoldi thanks Klopp but delays the choice between Germany and Italy
The twenty‑two‑year‑old Nicolo Tresoldi expressed deep gratitude to Jurgen Klopp after a positive interview, but emphasized that his final decision between the German and Italian national teams remains pending. He described the situation with Roberto Mancini as "similar" and reiterated his desire to finish the campaign with Germany U21 at the European Championship.
Italian‑Argentine roots
He was born in Cagliari to an Italian father and an Argentine mother of Italian origin; as a teenager he moved to Germany, where he joined the youth teams of Hannover 96. This dual cultural heritage makes him eligible for both Germany and Italy.
The path in the German youth system
He has already worn the Germany U19 shirt and, with the U21s, has scored sixteen goals in twenty‑seven matches. His numbers have made him one of the most sought‑after strikers in the age group.
The dialogue with Jurgen Klopp
"We had a great exchange of views, I hope I left a good impression," Tresoldi said about his meeting with the senior national team coach, Jurgen Klopp. "He is a great coach and a wonderful person. I am very grateful for the conversation and for his support".
The contact with Roberto Mancini
Roberto Mancini also reached out to the young striker, describing the situation as "similar" to that with Klopp. "It is special to have two great coaches who take the time to talk to me. I am very grateful to both and we will see what happens," he added.
Goal: the Under‑21 European Championship
His focus is now on completing the qualification campaign for the U21 European Championship with Germany. After the 2‑0 win over Georgia, the team confirmed its place in the final tournament scheduled for next summer.
Still undecided about the senior future
Despite the flattery, Tresoldi reiterated: "My focus is entirely on the U21s, not on Germany or Italy. I want to win, score and then we will see what happens". The final decision on the senior national team remains open.
The contrast between gratitude toward two great coaches and the still‑pending choice highlights the youngster's priority: to consolidate his development with Germany U21 before deciding his senior‑level future.
