Trent Alexander-Arnold hits NEW Real Madrid low as NEXT move looms
At the Bernabeu on a Sunday evening, Trent Alexander-Arnold watched from the bench as Real Madrid eased past Sevilla 4-1, a stark illustration of his NEW Real Madrid low after a return contact with Liverpool surfaced.
Struggles at the Spanish giants
While at Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold established himself as one of the finest right‑backs in the world, earning a reputation for exceptional passing range and creativity. He left Anfield for Real Madrid in the summer of 2025, expected to take his game to the next level.
Injuries hampered his first season in Spain, and he has managed only three LaLiga starts and a single Champions League appearance under manager Jose Mourinho this campaign.
Real Madrid reinforced competition by signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan in the summer of 2026, further limiting Alexander-Arnold’s opportunities.
Mourinho’s unconventional choices
For the Sevilla match, Mourinho deployed midfielder Federico Valverde at right‑back, leaving both Alexander-Arnold and Dumfries on the bench despite being fully fit and available.
After the game, Mourinho praised Valverde’s versatility, saying he could play anywhere to an extremely high standard and that he did not need to convince the Uruguayan of anything.
Mourinho has previously stated he does not consider Alexander-Arnold good enough to play in midfield for Madrid, and his recent selection decisions suggest doubts about the Englishman’s suitability as a right‑back.
Transfer speculation intensifies
TEAMtalk’s transfer insider Graeme Bailey reported on 26 September that intermediaries are assessing potential clubs for Alexander-Arnold, confirming contact with Liverpool and noting interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Bailey added that Liverpool, the club where the England international spent his entire senior career, remain attentive to his situation and could be a strong candidate for a return in 2027.
The possibility of a NEXT move back to Anfield is gaining traction, with the player reportedly not wanting to leave Los Blancos mid‑season, yet discussions are ongoing.
