Transfer collapse pushes Lindstrom toward Denmark

Jesper Lindstrom’s proposed loan from Napoli to Schalke 04 has collapsed, with the German club and the Italian side unable to resolve lingering issues despite completed medicals and the player agreeing to a salary reduction that saw him forgo €1.7 million of a €2.7 million wage, while Napoli had hoped to receive €5 million.

The original deal was a season‑long loan, with Napoli expecting a €5 million fee and Lindstrom consenting to cut €1.7 million from his €2.7 million contract. Both clubs had already arranged the financial terms before the medical examinations.

Lindstrom passed the required medical tests in Germany, clearing the final hurdle for the move. Nevertheless, disputes that arose between Schalke and Napoli on the previous day forced both parties to abandon the transfer.

Napoli responded by granting the midfielder two days of special leave, acknowledging that he does not feature in Max Allegri’s immediate plans. The club’s decision underscores the breakdown in negotiations despite the player’s readiness to join Schalke.

Schalke’s sporting director Manna is now tasked with locating a new destination for Lindstrom. The German side has not indicated any alternative suitors at this stage.

Reports suggest Denmark (Danimarca) is the most plausible next step, with Copenhagen‑based Brondby showing interest in bringing the player home. The Danish club’s willingness marks the first concrete rumor since the Schalke deal fell through.

Brondby, however, has stipulated that Lindstrom must accept an additional salary reduction to align his wages with the club’s budgetary parameters. The condition reflects the player’s current earnings, which exceed the financial model Brondby operates under.
