Thomas Hitzlsperger urges the DFB to act quickly for Tresoldi

Former international Thomas Hitzlsperger has urged the German Football Association (DFB) to act quickly to make the 22‑year‑old U21 international Nicolò Tresoldi a target for Jürgen Klopp and to win him over for the German national team, after both Jürgen Klopp and Italy’s coach Roberto Mancini have already expressed interest.
Goals in Bruges and Champions League appearance
Tresoldi scores in Bruges like a factory line and most recently displayed his class with three goals in the 4‑3 comeback of Belgian champions Brugge against Inter Milan in the Champions League.
"The DFB should do everything to ensure Tresoldi plays for Germany," Hitzlsperger said. He added that the player would improve the national team in any case and would open new options for Jürgen Klopp.
Klopp had already described the 22‑year‑old from FC Brugge as a "great lad" and emphasized that no one should be chased after. He also noted that in professional football it is not a good solution to persuade a player to join the DFB.
Hitzlsperger disagreed and argued that leaving someone alone is not a good solution in professional football. He suspected that the association had already stepped up its efforts before his hat‑trick at the San Siro, because insiders have known Tresoldi as a top talent for a long time.
The young striker, whose father Emanuele was a professional in Italy, wants to finish his time with the German U21, play the European Championship next summer, and only then make a final decision about his senior career.
With inquiries from Jürgen Klopp and Roberto Mancini, the DFB is now under pressure to actively demonstrate why the German national team is the right choice for the promising U21 international.
