Terzic's midfield blow sees Galarreta miss three derbies

Athletic Club Río Bilbao midfielder Galarreta will miss the next three fixtures after sustaining a moderate right‑hamstring injury against Getafe, a Malas development confirmed by coach Terzic. The club expects his return only after the November international break, ruling him out of the upcoming Copa tie and two league derbies.

Injury details and expected absence

The eibarrés felt a sharp pain during the first half against Getafe and was forced to be substituted. Medical examinations revealed a moderate lesion of the right hamstring muscle. Although Athletic does not publish official leave periods, this grade normally translates to roughly three weeks on the sidelines.

Consequently, Galarreta will sit out the next three Athletic matches. He will not feature in the Copa debut on Thursday against Prat, nor in the league derbies versus Real Sociedad on Sunday at San Mamés (21:00) and Osasuna on Saturday 7th at El Sadar (18:30).

Upcoming fixtures and squad rotation

After those fixtures the calendar pauses for international duties, with the squad resuming domestic competition on Friday 20 when they host Espanyol at La Catedral.

The team reconvened this morning following the 4‑0 victory over Getafe on Sunday and a rest day. Attention now turns to the Copa tie in L’Hospitalet, where rotations are expected.

The squad split into two groups: players who logged heavy minutes are now in recovery, while others such as Canales, Berenguer and Maroan have not been seen outside Lezama. Goalkeeper Unai Simón returned after winning the Yashin Trophy in London, arriving on a private flight and leaving the training ground slightly earlier than Padilla and Santos.

Coach Terzic’s line‑up for the cup will be decided on match day, but logic suggests a rotation against the regional Catalan side. Potential opportunities arise for Padilla, Yeray, Johaneko, Areso, Jauregizar, Robert Navarro and Nico Serrano, none of whom featured in the recent 4‑0 Getafe win.

Further chances may also be given to Rego, who entered the second half of the Getafe game, and Djaló, who trained normally today after returning from Guinea‑Bissau with a virus during the previous international window.
