Tebas criticises Mourinho and Real Madrid after controversial derby

After the heated derby between Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid, LaLiga president Javier Tebas spoke up. He responded to José Mourinho's fierce criticism of the referee and called the remarks unfair and cruel. Tebas emphasized that the aftermath of the city duel is not yet over.

Mourinho's Accusations and Tebas' Reaction

Mourinho criticised the decisions of referee Alejandro Hernández Hernández and felt his team was disadvantaged by two possible dismissals for Atlético. He accused the referee of a biased attitude and demanded more fairness. Tebas expressed understanding for the complaints, but rejected the manner of the criticism.

"I understand the complaints, but never the way they were expressed," the LaLiga boss explained. At the same time, he described Mourinho's remarks as "strong words" that he does not accept. Tebas emphasized that the criticism is not constructive and does not promote discussion about referee performance.

The president clarified that the contentious moments were not decisive for the result. "Madrid did not lose because of these actions," he stressed, noting that the photo of Real Madrid's 1-2 defeat documents the outcome.

Individual Decisions and General Criticism

Regarding the decision against Dean Huijsen, who was sent off after a VAR intervention, Tebas had no doubts – the red card for the Real defender was correct. He also confirmed the red card against Atlético defender Cristian Romero, as he had touched the ball before the contact with Jude Bellingham.

The incident between Kang-in Lee and Federico Valverde was less clear; a dismissal was possible, but the quick sequence could be understood. Tebas thereby showed that not every controversial situation must lead to a sanction.

Furthermore, Tebas directed his criticism at the general treatment of referees, particularly at Real Madrid TV, which repeatedly puts pressure on officials. "It is an unfair and cruel way to exert pressure on the referee," he said, emphasizing that his words addressed not only Mourinho but the entire handling of the impartial officials.
