Real Madrid calls La Liga boss Tebas' statements intolerable

Real Madrid has described the statements of Spain's league boss Javier Tebas as "intolerable" and demanded that the president step down from his position. The conflict erupted after the 1-2 defeat in the Madrid derby against Atletico, in which Real manager José Mourinho heavily criticized the referee. In an official statement the club rejected Tebas's comments and called for neutral leadership of the Spanish top division.

After the derby, José Mourinho publicly denounced the referee and described the performance of the officiating team as "poor". Javier Tebas responded the following Monday on social media, stating that the claim that referees were blowing against Real Madrid was happening "in another galaxy". He added that it was "easier to sniff out a conspiracy than to explain the course of the game".

Real Madrid then issued a detailed statement, in which the club statement emphasized that Tebas's remarks in his capacity as league president were "intolerable". "Our club considers it intolerable that the president of La Liga uses his institutional position to continue discrediting and attacking Real Madrid," the release reads. The club also criticised that Tebas repeatedly is "obsessed with targeting Real Madrid" and thereby damages the image of the Spanish football league.
