Tchouaméni ties Madrid to 2031 with Mourinho’s backing

Aurélien Tchouaméni has extended his contract with Real Madrid until 2031, tying the French midfielder to the club for the remainder of the decade. The renewal, confirmed by Matteo Moretto and corroborated on Wednesday evening, adds three years to a deal previously set to expire in 2028.

Tchouaméni arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu from AS Monaco in the summer of 2022, initially positioned as the long-term successor to Casemiro in defensive midfield. His role has since expanded under three different head coaches: Carlo Ancelotti, Xabi Alonso, and Raúl Arbeloa. Tchouaméni’s tactical versatility—capable of playing in defence—has made him one of Real Madrid’s most adaptable players.

Despite a challenging season for the team, including reports of a dressing-room altercation with Fede Valverde, his commitment to staying at the club remained unwavering. External interest from Premier League clubs did not sway his decision. The extension formalises his status as a key figure in Real Madrid’s midfield plans, with Mourinho’s arrival as head coach reinforcing his importance.

Mourinho’s influence has been pivotal in securing the deal, as all squad-building decisions now align with his vision. Tchouaméni’s profile—covering multiple positions—aligns closely with Mourinho’s preferences. The renewal also closes speculation that he might be used as part of a package in potential transfers, such as a reported link to Michael Olise.

That uncertainty is now resolved, with Tchouaméni firmly anchored to Madrid. The timing of the announcement coincided with his return to France’s training group at Bentley following a muscular injury. He trained alongside his teammates and spoke briefly with Didier Deschamps ahead of the quarter-final against Morocco at the World Cup.
