Sunderland’s move for Soule hinges on Roma’s Greenwood gamble
Sunderland have opened exploratory talks for Roma forward Matias Soule after Florent Ghisolfi’s request, as Gian Piero Gasperini eyes Mason Greenwood to bolster the Giallorossi attack. The arrival of the Englishman in Rome would reduce Soule’s minutes, prompting the Argentine to seek a move away this window.
Roma no longer faces financial urgency to sell and can set its terms for key departures. The club’s asking price for Soule stands just above €35 million, reflecting the €30 million fee paid to sign him on July 30, 2024.
Exploratory interest has emerged from Germany and Saudi Arabia for the 22-year-old, though no concrete bids have materialised. Sunderland, newly promoted and Europa League qualifiers, have limited their approach to a request for information to gauge Roma’s valuation.
In Trigoria, Soule’s future remains tied to Gasperini’s transfer strategy. With Greenwood’s potential arrival reducing his role, the Argentine’s departure could be accelerated if a suitable offer is tabled.
