Sturm Graz sparks fan showdown as Genesio backs Marseille supporters
After Olympique de Marseille suffered their third straight Europa League defeat, a 0‑1 loss to Sturm Graz, three of the club’s players were confronted by furious supporters in Austria, a scene that Sturm Graz Genesio said he fully understood.
Supporters confront the squad
The club’s third consecutive defeat in the Ligue Europa (Europa League) underscores the growing difficulty of their European campaign, with no point earned from three matchdays.
Supporters initially insulted the players, raising fingers high, before beginning talks, L’Équipe reported: “En préambule, ils ont insulté les joueurs, avec quelques doigts brandis bien hauts, puis ils ont commencé, bon an mal an, à ébaucher des pourparlers.”
Timothy Weah, Pierre‑Emile Højbjerg and Nayef Aguerd stepped forward to discuss the disappointment with the travelling fans.

Genesio backs the fans
The supporters reminded the squad of their deep attachment to the club while demanding a swift on‑field reaction, mixing criticism with a message of support.
Coach Bruno Genesio said he not only understood the anger but would not blame the fans, adding an apology for the team’s performance.
Genesio highlighted the supporters’ effort, noting they spent long hours on a bus to reach Graz and back, and that such loyalty deserves a far more convincing display on the pitch.
