Standard's youth gamble: Mitongo's exit to Trabzonspor looms

Standard faces a stark contrast between its youth project and a looming departure. According to the club, 18‑year‑old striker René Mitongo, who has made nine first‑team appearances and carries a market value of €1 million, is set to leave for Turkish side Trabzonspor despite a contract running to June 2028.

Volgens transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Luikse attacker has already accepted Trabzonspor's proposal. The move signals a rapid shift from potential to exit for the promising forward.

An agreement on contract terms has been reached with the Luikenaar’s management, and he is currently travelling to Turkije for his medical examinations. The Turkse club is preparing to finalise the transfer once the tests are completed.

Mitongo’s development path includes spells at KSK Heist, KV Mechelen, Lierse, Beveren, KAA Gent and finally Standard, where he made his professional debut. He has featured nine times for the Rouches’ first team.

The young talent missed the Saturday clash against Juventus and was also absent the following day against Seraing, confirming that a departure was imminent. Those absences underscored the certainty of his exit.

Transfermarkt lists the Belgian U19 international at a valuation of one million euros. Although he extended his contract in the summer of 2025, the deal now appears to be superseded by the Trabzonspor move.
