Spanish striker Jesús de Miguel dies following on‑field collision

In the dying minutes of a tightly contested second‑division match, Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel was struck by FC Andorra’s goalkeeper as he rushed out of his area.
The impact proved fatal; De Miguel, 30, died on Tuesday after sustaining injuries from the collision.
CD Tenerife announced the tragedy at 6.30 am (7 am GMT) on 3 November 2026, describing the loss as an indescribable sadness.
The club’s statement said no words can ease the pain and expressed solidarity with his family, friends and supporters.
A Spanish‑language version of the notice recorded the time as 8:00 hours and made the same appeal for privacy.
De Miguel’s family thanked supporters and asked for maximum respect for their privacy during these terrible moments.
The incident occurred when Equatorial Guinea international goalkeeper Jesús Owono charged out, fouling De Miguel in the centre of the pitch.
At the time the score was level at 2‑2 and the clash took place towards the end of the game.

Spanish media reported that De Miguel suffered cardiac arrest, was briefly resuscitated, but his condition later deteriorated neurologically.
He had joined Tenerife in the summer of 2025 from Castellón, having spent just over a season with the club.
Former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, who is Andorra’s majority shareholder, posted on social media: ‘I am so deeply sorry. Rest in peace, Jesus.’
Andorra’s officials also sent their most sincere condolences to De Miguel’s family, teammates and Tenerife.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and several other Spanish clubs issued messages of sympathy, as did the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
