Spanish federation postpones matches after deadly collision involving De Miguel

On a cold Tuesday morning in Tenerife the silence of the stadium was suddenly broken by the tragic news. The Spanish football association has, following the death of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, postponed all matches up to and including Friday. The thirty‑year‑old Spaniard died Tuesday morning after a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono. CD Tenerife announced that same morning that De Miguel had died from the consequences of the Monday‑night collision.
The Spanish footballer lost consciousness after a hard collision with goalkeeper Owono. Shortly after the incident the match was permanently halted. In a statement the club wrote: ‘Deeply saddened, with a lump in the throat and unable to believe that this is real, CD Tenerife announces the tragic death of Jesús de Miguel Alameda, on Tuesday 3 November 2026 at 08:00.’ Following the death the association decided on Tuesday that there will be no football until Friday; first the Tuesday fixtures had already been cancelled and now the Copa del Rey matches of Wednesday and Thursday have also been postponed.
