Spain secures quarter‑final spot, England chase promotion in London

While Spain will try to decide the Nations League quarter‑final in Split on Tuesday at 20:45, England is trying to make a big step towards promotion in the parallel match in London. Both fixtures decide the top‑two places in their respective groups.

Spain wants to extend unbeaten run

After winning the World Cup in July, the Spanish side wants to continue its run of 41 international matches without defeat. In the Nations League it has already recorded three wins this autumn and sits top with nine points. The first goal against Croatia last Tuesday ended 4‑1.

Coach Luis de la Fuente is counting on a win in Split to secure captain Rodri and his squad in Group A3 firmly in the top two. The pre‑match excitement is documented by Marta Lopez.

Croatia, seeking revenge after a 0‑7 defeat to England, calls on 41‑year‑old veteran Luka Modrić: “We have to show our true face.”

England needs at least second place with a win of its own and a Croatian loss. Coach Thomas Tuchel, after the clear victory over Croatia in Rijeka, goes into the home match at Wembley against the Czechs as the favourite.

In the previous encounter in Prague, England won 2‑0 thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Anthony Gordon. Alex Scott is out with a thigh injury, as is Arsenal defender Ezri Konsa; in his place, Rico Lewis from Manchester City has been called up.

Harry Kane is approaching his 125th international cap and could equal Peter Shilton’s record. The English captain stresses that he will be “ready.”

The Tuesday matches mark the end of an almost two‑week Nations League phase; the final two rounds will follow in mid‑November.
