Spain endure drama to keep perfect record in UEFA Nations League

Under the floodlights of a Saturday evening, the Spanish side pressed forward from the first whistle, their early rhythm already hinting at the dominance that would define the night.

Early brilliance sets the tone

Lamine Yamal opened the scoring within the first minute, cutting in from the right, threading the ball with his left foot and firing into the top‑right corner past goalkeeper Kinský. The strike gave La Roja an instant advantage and forced the Czech Republic to abandon their plan of crowding the midfield.

Mid‑field mastery and a second goal

Spain kept the ball, rotating between two four‑man lines and launching quick transitions. After a patient build‑up, Rodri received a lofted pass from Pedri, found space and slotted home to make it 2‑0 just after the half‑hour mark.

Late drama and the decisive finish

The Czech side responded in the second half, with Slama converting a long ball from Hložek to halve the deficit. A Czech goal was later ruled out, keeping the tension high. In the final minutes, Muñoz’s individual effort was saved, the rebound fell to Merino, who tapped in the third goal to seal a 3‑1 victory.

The win secured Spain’s 100 percent utilisation of points in the UEFA Nations League, bringing their total to nine points and extending their unbeaten run to 41 matches.

For the Czech Republic, the defeat marked their third loss in the competition, leaving them at the bottom of the group.

Both teams will return for the fourth round on Tuesday: Spain travel to face Croatia, while the Czech Republic head to England.
