Sevilla accuses La Liga of a plot after the match with Real Madrid
Real Madrid-Sevilla FC was the scene of a controversy: two days after Sevilla's 4-1 defeat to the Merengues, the Andalusian club officially approached La Liga, denouncing a television plot and demanding justice following the non‑expulsion of Arda Güler.
Official statement from Sevilla
In a statement released Tuesday evening, Sevilla FC submitted a formal complaint to La Liga's Competition Department, expressing its deep disagreement with the audiovisual production of the match and its strong concern over recent statements by Sergio Carranza Lezcano, head of La Liga's production.
The club also met with the Referees' Technical Committee, exchanging remarks “in respect”, but it remains steadfast in its disagreement over the refereeing decisions deemed controversial.
Allegations of unequal treatment
Sevilla, sitting sixth in La Liga, denounces unequal treatment in the broadcast of decisive actions, notably Arda Güler's elbow on Peque in the 23rd minute, Cucurella's foul on Peque that could have resulted in a penalty, and Konaté's foul on Robbie Ure that led to Real's second goal, all shown without slow‑motion or enlarged angles.
These three sequences are missing from the official highlights, although footage was later aired by broadcasters such as Movistar Plus+, reinforcing the club's complaint.
Conversely, the penalty awarded to Real after a foul on Mbappé received multiple replays from different angles, according to Sevilla, which illustrates, in its view, unequal treatment.
Sevilla FC demands the release of the protocols governing the broadcasts, all original footage of the four reported actions, as well as the preservation of the recordings for possible legal action, and calls for a thorough investigation and corrective measures.
On Sunday, the Merengues secured a 4-1 victory on La Liga's ninth matchday, with Arda Güler opening the scoring in the 30th minute after his unpunished elbow in the 23rd minute, while coach Luis Garcia Plaza strongly criticised the refereeing, calling the situation a scandal.
