September proposal from Cairo could spark Torino stadium deal

Il sindaco di Torino, Stefano Lo Russo, told Tuttosport that the possible transfer of the Olimpico Grande Torino stadium to Urbano Cairo’s club could move forward in September, once the technical proposal is received and will then be examined by the Comune for compliance with public‑procurement rules.

Technical proposal and evaluation

Lo Russo explained that the municipality is awaiting the technical proposal that has been announced and should now be in an advanced stage of preparation. “We are waiting for the technical proposal that has been pre‑announced and should already be in an advanced phase of elaboration,” he said.

The delivery of the proposal will not automatically result in the sale of the facility; it will instead trigger the formal assessment required by the public‑procurement code. The Comune will scrutinise the project on technical, economic and administrative grounds before any transfer can be confirmed.

The reference to a public‑private partnership indicates that the structure and conditions of the operation will be defined based on the proposal presented by the Torino club. Only after this evaluation can the authorities clarify the modalities, timing and actual scope of a possible stadium hand‑over.

Stadium deal within wider city ambitions

Lo Russo highlighted that the stadium issue sits within a broader collaboration between the Comune and the granata club, noting recent milestones such as the completion of the Robaldo sports centre for youth activities and the definition of a plan for the Torino museum.

He described the stadium as the central piece of this wider project, calling it “the most significant step” and expressing confidence that the conditions exist to address it seriously and positively.

The discussion also ties into Torino’s bid to host Euro 2032, where the availability of Juventus’s Allianz Stadium is presented as a key strength. Lo Russo said the city is in a solid position thanks to its international‑level facilities, starting with the Allianz Stadium.

Concluding, the mayor said that while the September proposal will launch the formal process, the stadium’s future is part of a larger strategy to reinforce Torino’s role in major sporting events and to complete the envisioned “granata citadel.”
