Seedorf starts in nightmare at Corinthians amid crisis

On a cloudy Sunday afternoon Corinthians announced that Clarence Seedorf, the former midfielder, will become the new head coach. The announcement came as the club, just above the relegation line, struggles with a run of eight defeats and financial problems and is still unsettled.

Big challenge for Seedorf

Seedorf faces a huge task at Corinthians. It is his first assignment since he was dismissed as Cameroon’s national team coach in 2019. The club is counting on his experience to improve the sporting results.

Corinthians' difficult situation

Corinthians, employer of Memphis Depay and Zakaria Labyad, performs poorly in the league. The team sits just above the relegation line and still has to climb the table. Moreover, it has lost the last eight matches.

Defender Gabriel Paulista described the situation as a nightmare after the 4-1 defeat to Palmeiras. “I have sacrificed a lot to chase a dream, but now I live in a nightmare,” he said. He demanded protection and timely payment of salaries and wages.

“Damn, what a disgrace, man!” Paulista continued. “That one player after another has to be helped is a disgrace for a club like Corinthians.”

Seedorf signed a contract until the end of 2027. He will lead his first match on the side of Timão against the mid‑table side Vitória, scheduled for the night of Monday into Tuesday. The defender made himself available to support players in need.

With Seedorf at the helm Timão hopes to find stability both on the pitch and off it, while the club must resolve its financial problems to avoid relegation.

Paulista also noted that he himself earned little in the past and now wants to support players. “I can manage myself for a while, but that isn’t the case for some players. When I started, I also earned very little. If I had been in such a situation, my family might have had to go hungry,” he explained. He emphasized that he is available for players who need help.
