KNVB considers measures now that Clarence Seedorf coaches Corinthians

On a cloudy Sunday afternoon, Clarence Seedorf stepped onto the training ground of Corinthians, an unexpected arrival that puts the Dutch association directly in the spotlight. The former midfielder, also a member of the KNVB‑board of supervisors, was given the task of rescuing the team, just above the relegation line.

Corinthians, nicknamed Timão, sits just above the relegation line, but the last eight matches were all lost, causing the team to drop sharply.

Seedorf's arrival is expected on Monday or Tuesday, after which the first match of the new coaching staff will take place during the coming week. He must, among other things, free the employer of Memphis Depay and Zakaria Labyad from relegation worries.

KNVB weighs dual role

The KNVB is now deliberating possible next steps, because Seedorf, besides his role at Corinthians, is also a member of the Board of Supervisors of the Dutch association. “The KNVB is considering Seedorf’s role as a member of the board of supervisors, now that he becomes coach of Corinthians,” reports the Algemeen Dagblad. The newspaper states that a dual role within the association’s policy must be carefully examined.

In his board role, Seedorf holds the portfolio of football technical matters and was recently involved in discussions about candidates for the national team coaching position of the Oranje.

The outcome of this deliberation will determine whether a dual function within the association’s policy is acceptable, with possible implications for the governance of Dutch football.
