Scotland returns after defeat – dog disrupts pitch

When a dog suddenly entered the Scotland pitch, there was a brief stir in Skopje. Shortly afterwards, the Scots responded to the defeat against Switzerland with a clear win over North Macedonia, which gave them the first three points in the Nations League.

First three‑pointers in the Nations League

Coach Sébastien Pocognoli led the team to a 2‑0 victory. The win marked the Scots' first three‑points in this year's campaign. With that, Scotland returned to the Swiss Nations League group.

Kieron Bowie opened the game in the 7th minute. John McGinn scored in the 69th minute from the penalty spot. Both goals came in Skopje and secured the lead for the visitors.

As against Switzerland, the Scots played with fewer men. Scott McKenna left the field in the 83rd minute after a red‑card decision. The team had to see out the final phase with ten men.

During the first half, a dog roamed onto the grass. It stayed only a few seconds and left the pitch on its own. The incident caused a brief stir before the game continued.

Thanks to the three points, the Scots are now level with second‑placed Slovenia, which lost 1‑2 to Switzerland in Lucerne. The two teams therefore share second place in the group.

On Tuesday, Scotland will face Slovenia in the final match of the Nations League round. The first leg ended 0‑0, so the result will be decisive for the placement.
