Schwarz: DFB presents farewell shirt in Amsterdam for Klopp debut

For the official Klopp debut, the DFB, the German national team will wear a black farewell kit from Adidas, which is already being used before the planned presentation in November. Captain Joshua Kimmich and his teammates will present the black shirt with gold stripes on Thursday in Amsterdam against the Netherlands.

Early presentation of the farewell kit

Originally the black kit was supposed to be unveiled in November. However, the DFB received short‑notice permission from UEFA to use the new shirt already in the opening match of the Nations League group.

The kit is completely black and features gold vertical stripes made up of small diamond patterns. According to the DFB, the gold diamonds symbolise more than 24,000 football clubs in Germany, the foundation of German football. The shirt therefore becomes the final piece of clothing from the decades‑long partner Adidas.

It had been planned that the team would wear a green retro kit in the Johan‑Crouff‑Arena, recalling the away shirt from the 1990 World Cup. Instead, the black shirt will make its debut and premiere under national coach Jürgen Klopp.

Klopp splits Germany squad as Nations League opener looms

The DFB announced the day before the match that captain Joshua Kimmich and his colleagues will wear the black shirt at 20:45 CET (RTL) against the Netherlands in Amsterdam. The game is the opening of the Nations League group stage.

Upcoming matches and kit decisions

In the following games on Sunday in Augsburg against Greece and four days later in Munich against Serbia, the DFB eleven will wear the white home kits that were also used at the World Cup in the summer. The white and the green kits are currently on display in the team headquarters in Herzogenaurach. Which kit the national players will wear on 4 October against Greece has not yet been finalised.

At the start of the week Adidas launched a promotional clip in which Philipp Lahm, Florian Wirtz and Jürgen Klinsmann discuss the most beautiful kit in DFB history. The film announces the official presentation of the new and simultaneously last kit for 3 November, and fans can, according to the DFB, purchase it soon. The partnership with Adidas ends this year; from 2027 Nike will equip the national team.

Thus the decision on the kit for the 4 October match remains open. The DFB will announce the final selection in the coming days.
