German Eriksen and Wolfsburg part ways by the player's will

Germania Eriksen, the 34-year-old Danish midfielder, has decided to terminate the contract with the German Wolfsburg club by mutual agreement, even though the deal had been signed until the summer of 2027; the news was announced by the club itself.

Arrival and relegation of the club

Eriksen, former Inter player, arrived at Wolfsburg in September 2025 on a two-year contract. The German club was then relegated to the second division in June 2026, after losing the two-legged playoff against Paderborn.

The new health episode

On June 7, during a friendly between Denmark and Ukraine, Eriksen collapsed in the 64th minute, losing consciousness for a brief moment before quickly recovering and leaving the pitch conscious. The match was halted by the referee.

Termination decision

Wolfsburg sporting director Dieter Hecking said: "For us it was clear that the decision about his future belonged to Christian. We wanted to give him that freedom in such a particular situation and therefore we accepted his request to terminate the contract".

Eriksen explained: "At the moment, it is important for me to stay close to my family in Denmark. I am happy to have found a solution with the club".

The former Manchester United player has amassed 151 caps for the national team and has worn the shirts of Ajax, Tottenham, Inter and Brentford before arriving at Wolfsburg, where he made 34 appearances.

Future prospects

The Danish player concluded his stint in Germany without having played since June 7. The club, now in the second division, aims to return to the Bundesliga, while Eriksen is focusing on his family and a possible future outside professional football.
