Schmeichel: Tielemans changed game in Roma win

Peter Schmeichel praised Manchester United summer signing Youri Tielemans for “changing the game” in the Champions League comeback win over Roma.
Roma seize early control
Roma surged into a 2‑0 lead at Old Trafford, giving United their worst start to a season since the 1980s.
Matias Soule capitalised on space near the United box to put the Italians ahead inside 12 minutes.
Donyell Malen doubled Rome’s lead from the penalty spot after Ayden Heaven blocked a shot with his arm.
United rally in second half
United were booed off at half‑time but improved after the break when Bruno Fernandes scored just before the hour mark from a retaken penalty.
Despite the lifeline, United still seemed headed for defeat and Michael Carrick’s position appeared under threat until Matheus Cunha scored twice late on to complete a memorable European comeback.
Schmeichel said he felt “so sad” at half‑time but believed the game changed when Tielemans entered.

Tielemans replaced the injured Carlos Baleba shortly after the break and, “changed the game”.
Schmeichel told that “It’s about time we did something like this… At half‑time I was so sad… MAN UNITED HAVE TURNED IT AROUND!!!” and added that Tielemans drove the team forward, acted as a leader and provided a turning point for the squad.
Mateus Cunha’s two late goals sealed the comeback, taking United to a 3‑2 lead.
Man Utd’s win over Roma saw the club climb to 17th in the Champions League after four games, while Roma fell to 19th.

Kasper Schmeichel also praised Tielemans, saying he urged the team to “go down fighting” at half‑time and noted the stadium’s magical atmosphere.
Michael Carrick told Schmeichel the win was huge for him, crediting the second‑half shift, Baleba’s injury and Tielemans’ influence for the increased control.
United will face Aston Villa at home on Sunday, and Roma, third in Serie A, host Sassuolo.
